The Challenge - Faced with the reality
that U.S. Congress votes 40 times a year to roll back reproductive
health care, Planned Parenthood Federation of America asked i.e.
communications to create a communications campaign to identify, recruit
and enlist thousands of grassroots activists nationwide to join an
electronic network poised to contact U.S. Congress as votes approached.
Strategies & Advocacy to Recruit Activists
- i.e. created and helped implement a communications action
plan featuring:
- Research, including constituency
polling and focus groups.
- A Message: "Behind every choice
there is a story. Make your story count."
- Communication materials, including
a networking kit for 125 affiliates offering materials and mechanisms
for local recruitment.
Results
- Planned Parenthood gained thousands of new
activists who effectively formed The Responsible Choices Action
Network, one of the nation's first, web-based advocacy campaign
allowing activists to respond to email alerts with free faxes
to members of Congress.
- There was renewed funding for reproductive
rightsand favorable policies.
- Issues of concern to Planned Parenthood
enjoyed wider media coverage.
